An inclusive metaverse through a great partnership

Opportunity

Announcements made by different multinationals at the end of 2021 about the metaverse and the possibilities it will create in the following decades generated much curiosity. Meta, one of the leading metaverse companies, worked with Pearl Consulting to build opportunities for a metaverse that is inclusive by design.

The Solution

Pearl Consulting worked hand-in-hand with the client, Meta in the conceptualisation, planning and implementation of a capability-building initiative in partnership with the Organization of American States (OAS) across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Pearl Consulting supported the localisation of the Meta Spark training content offered through Meta’s Blueprint platform and the OAS’s Youth Academy website. The initiative aims to prepare 10,000 students, emerging creators, and small and medium businesses owners in Augmented Reality by 2024, who will learn how to use the Meta Spark Studio to create and monetise innovative content and solutions. The training consists of three learning levels: Quick Start, Fundamentals, and Pro, with certifications available.

Steps to success

1. Deep understanding of the challenges

Pearl Consulting conducted interviews to understand Meta’s challenges and needs, in parallel with research on the topic and consultation with experts in the field. Creators and developers from the region offered valuable insights about the challenges they face.

2. Targeting a broader audience

Meta’s partnership with the OAS was key to the amplification of the impact of the training across Latin America and the Caribbean, building the foundation to upskill the workforce and youths in the region.

3. Offering timely solutions

Pearl Consulting supported the localisation of the Meta Spark content simultaneously in Spanish and Portuguese languages, helping Meta to roll out the programme.

4. Onboarding creators and developers

To localise the curriculum, boost engagement and start creating a dynamic community, Pearl Consulting identified and engaged creators and developers in a capability-building process focused on the features and resources of Meta Spark.

The Outcome

  • OAS became the first multilateral organisation in the world to partner with Meta to train 10,000 people in Augmented Reality (AR) by 2024.
  • The initiative received strong public endorsement from leaders, including the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro.
  • Delivery of a strong initiative to maximise inclusion opportunities.
  • First set of modules launched (Quick Start) in Spanish and Portuguese had immediate and broad acceptance.
Cooperative efforts like this allow us to have a greater impact, and reach more people with more knowledge, more skills, and more opportunities to build their future.” Luis Almagro, Secretary General, OAS
